A New Record High Capacity Economy Express “Plusliner Xtreme”

Monday July 06, 2009

Putrajaya, 6 July 2009 –  Plusliner Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of the biggest bus operator in the country, Konsortium Transnasional Berhad (KTB) launched its new record holder, high capacity economy express coach called Plusliner Xtreme.  The double decker coach breaks the existing record with 72 passengers.  The previous record holder was a sister brand, launched two years ago, “Transnasional Skyview”.

The first two coaches of Plusliner Xtreme were officially launched by Yang Berhormat Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri bin Tan Sri Abdul Aziz, the Minister in the Prime Minister Department from a total of 16 units, currently under production. The cost of each high capacity coach is about RM1.3 million each and will be delivered at the rate of two units every three months. “These specially designed coaches are technologically advanced in terms of styling, creature comfort equipments and safety features,” said Dato Mohd Nadzmi Mohd Salleh, the Chairman of KTB.  Even though the coach can accommodate 72 passengers, the seats are ergonomically designed to follow the body contour and the overall interior is very spacious.  In addition, all seats can be slided/separated to create additional shoulder room.  This concept was achieved through design innovation that incorporates rear entrance staircase with integrated emergency exits and hidden ladder during emergency.

“With this high number of passengers, safety is of course our main priority.  Plusliner Xtreme comes with loaded safety features; like a standard Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Engine Retarder, Traction Control and on board GPS monitoring system. The front suspension are fully independent type for ultimate stability and comfort,” added Dato’ Nadzmi.

Prior to the launch, Plusliner had also selected their new list of best drivers to attend an intensive two-day Driver Training program with Scania, the chassis supplier.  The program covers all aspects of vehicle operations, handling and safety precautions.  During the handing over, Plusliner Sdn Bhd and Scania (M) Sdn Bhd, signed a service and maintenance contract as a standard practice by Plusliner.  For more than 100 coaches that Plusliner operates, all of them are maintained by the respective chassis and air conditioning suppliers according to manufacturers specifications and using only genuine spare parts, hence Plusliner concentrates only in providing good and quality services to their loyal passengers and highway commuters.

KTB made its first debut on Bursa Malaysia on Jun 15, 2007. The largest operator in the country operates now more than 1600 stage and express buses. With its largest market share, KTB outshines other operators with its various innovations in the past like the use of CNG buses,e-ticketing for both express and stage buses, Australian/European standard for bus construction through their famous brands like “Transnasional”, the cross country express, “Plusliner” the most frequent highway express, “NICE” the executive/luxury coaches and “Cityliner” the city/stage buses.
